Entry 2
Every student that will walk into my future classroom will be coming from a different background and will have a different set views. These differences can be due to culture, socioeconomic status, or simply just different experiences. Regardless of these differences, all students will have the same expectations in the music classroom. While the expectations are the same, the approach taken for each individual student to get there will be catered to their needs. It is important to also celebrate these differences in order to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment. If a student feels out of place because they are different, they will not feel comfortable learning and exploring within the classroom. As a teacher, I must make sure all students feel accepted in the classroom. One final way to ensure my students meet the standards is to meet them where they are in their educational journey. To do this, you must discover what they already know about a topic or concept and build up off of that. Each student may be at a different point which makes it challenging, but not impossible. The instruction should be individualized to what each student needs based on their background and their learning style.
Throughout my student teaching semester, I have seen first-hand just how different every student can really be. It's truly amazing how many different, yet amazing young people can come together and learn for the sake of bettering themselves. As a teacher, I always have to work hard to be on top of my game so that I can help guide these groups of students to knowledge and college/career readiness. Being a teacher is committing to a lot of things in as well as giving up other things for the sake of the diverse students in your classroom, but after getting a taste of teaching, I am fully prepared to do just that.
